I've played this last scenario twice now and each time the Soviets get wiped out before they can establish a foothold on the Japanese mainland, leaving me to try and take everything....... Even their mainland Asian forces can't help much, except for their navy which spawns some ships occasionally. Still, I barely won on last turn by following the guide. Maybe now with Guderian & far better tech, I can get 3 stars.

I saw a lot of theories as to what triggers Soviet aggression.
First of all, it probably has nothing to do with Tokyo. When I played this, the Soviets captured it first and in the next turn, I stole it from them. Nothing happened next.
I think it is generated randomly at the beginning of the mission, which explains the situation well enough.

Assigning a random no. generator to assign probability of Soviets turning traitor at the begining of each run.

Assigning a random no. generator to assign probability of Soviets turning traitor at the begining of each run. Of course. It makes perfect sense.

Odd, I thought I wrote something there. What I meant to say is are you are playing on hard or normal difficulty? From what I seen the soviets changing sides only happen in hard and does not happen on normal.

If possible, I'll wait until their gens are dead to see if their gens being alive & American/British seizure of Tokyo.

I have played this twice now and the Soviets always get demolished and even if I take Tokyo they are still my allies.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is just a perfect example what a good strategy means in campaigns. I just beat this at hard in 13 movs, half of which is needed for 3*. This is by far the toughest campaign in all of the Pacific. And yeah, Soviets never switched sides. Ofc it was in hard mode.

I still can't beat this on normal. I tried the way mentioned, and alternately I tried saving the nuke for the last city, to no avail. I just want to move on to cold war era help! Generals are Messe and Leeb
