I hope you didn't check directly. "No" to the first two and "Yes" to Auchinleck. His direct command of the Eighth Army halted Rommel's offensive at the First Battle of El Alamein. The geographical advantages of the land he chose allowed his Eighth Army successor, Monty, to block another breakthrough. In the end, Monty would drive Rommel out of Egypt once and for all.

How was he related to India. Who is next BTW?

I was the wife of a famous general.
I had 3 children, Taro, Yoko, and Takako.
I married into a not especially rich family, but it had samurai roots.
My husband never returned from one of the bloodiest and most brilliantly planned battles of the war.

It is really hard.
I know her first name, Her Husband died on a suicide mission, a 7-Day General.
She grew up after war 3 Children alone - send even her daughte to university.
Died at high age.
I don't find anything more, her family or her name. I keep trying.

Yoshii Kuribayashi after marrige.
Her Husband died at IΕ TΕ. His only command as General. He didn't want this war, neither the misson. But he did it - a very bloody kamikaze - tradition. His letters to his family and the last morning with his family made a book and even a film.
Maybe its in the Film, I can't find her name.
Kakehashi Kumiko, Biographer of Commander Kuribayashi Tadamichi:

Whoever gets the right answer asks the next question. I know that. But it will delay the game though. I am not opposing it, but, just saying.

Yoshii Kuribayashi wife of Commander Kuribayashi Tadamichi: Correct. A nice riddle, interesting and educative. I had to try it, but I could not prepare a new question. If someone has a question - please put your quest!
