I'm currently sludging half way trough HRE (Unification of Germany) and it seems very tough. I wonder if the rest of the HRE campaigns are going to be like that or if that's just one of the hardest ones. If so, damn.

It's basically another blitz mission, requiring powerful & mobile gens to win ASAP before the Anti-Prussia coalition is able to kill off bits of our widespread but small forces.

I think a war drum is an absolute must in this one. I bought Arnold so I can buy one or two items. I'm also grinding as much Rank and Nobility for my general. What Generals do you have?

Currently, I am stuck on the SNS campaign, though I can see why a bunch of people are stuck on certain missions. I am going to categorize the missions I thought were the hardest of the each campaign right up to and including Suppress Revolution, SNS.
Imperial Eagle:
Marengo - It's always been a tricky one for me early in the game, because I can never really get the northernmost objective and Munich. Battle of Three Emperors - Slugfest. Expedition Russia - Oh Lord, a fort with Defense Art. Plus I have to march across an enemy wasteland!?!??! Leipzig Campaign - Another slugfest.
Coalition:
Return to Rhine - This is more of harder to get to 5 stars, because of Brussels and trying to hold off Moreau. Trafalgar - I don't have naval generals. Austerlitz - Slugfest galore! Eylau - Another slugfest, jeez. Assault on French to War of Glory, except for Emperor's Fall- It's like the creators wanted you to have slugfests all day.
HRE:
Return to Italy - I was only able to progress through the rest of this entire game because of a glitch in this level. Reconstruction of the Empire - I got PTSD from that. Invasion of Peninsular - Kept be stuck for weeks. Continental System - I was barely able to complete that mission, and I can't get out of 1 star. Balkan Wars to North America Landings- Just plain hard as hell. These levels I can't get 4 or 5 stars. At all.
Eastern Overlord:
Imperial Expansion - Although this campaign wasn't that bad at all, this was that one level that was a slugfest. Did I mention I only had 2 stars?
Rise of America:
Revenge of the British - You don't get much, and you're expected to take down everything. Peninsula Landings - At least you don't have to conquer everything this time...still a slugfest. Road to Hell - The PTSD struck back.
Sun Never Sets:
Indian's Blood and Suppress Revolution - Part of the hardest campaign, after all.
Concluding thoughts:
The game has hard levels everywhere, and I probably forgot to mention other levels because I completed them quite a while ago. Although it seems that other campaigns other than SNS are the hardest, it should be noted that in most of the earlier levels, I was able to get 5 stars either first try or after a short while.
Generals + Items, if you need a reference guide on the generals needed to get quite a bit of 5 stars.
Golitsyn (obtained recently, though I did most of the campaigns with Sulkoski) - Cavalry pistol + Snare Drum Dobeln - Ferguson Rifle + Tall Boots Isabella - Potent Gunpowder + Horse Artillery Sophia - Potent Gunpowder

It's hard to evaluate which missions are the hardest, because as you progress through the different campaigns, presumably your generals get better as well as your skills. I'll list the ones that I struggled with the first time around, because when I try them now they are easy.
Coalition Disruption
Trafalgar, Never Surrender, War of Glory
Austro-Turkish War, Battle of Britain, Expedition to North Africa
Imperial Expansion
Westward Movement, March on Britain, Road to Hell
Suppress Revolution
Right now I have five stars on every mission in the first four campaigns, all but three missions in Rise of America, and in the first two Sun Never Sets missions.

Just three. Austro-Turkish War was hard for me to complete, but the others were just hard to get five stars in. There's hope yet!

To add on to my previous post, the missions as Austria or Prussia aren't too bad, but once you get to the fictional missions as the Holy Roman Empire (the last seven), they get hard because you units are inferior to your opponents. They're pretty tricky!
