Yep. Just a battle/artillery ability gap. Storm fortifications is a good skill but not exactly one that makes or breaks an artillery general in my opinion. It has great synergy with John's terrain bonuses, though. John is a solid rocket artillery hybrid too. Thats why i hate artillery generals with counterattack. They ain’t so good on rockets

Simply the best IAP you can buy, except Blucher, you need to not be so stingy and buy these guys,I promise you'll never regret it.

But for 11$, the quality difference between john and napoleon isn’t so large.

I think I’m buying John over Mahmud. John deals more damage against forts, and since I dislike Rocket Artillery, he will be better for me.

It has nice multipliers such as 120% damage against light armored units (all infantry units minus line infantry and machine gunners essentially). Imo it is pretty good. That is a good idea. It really does not matter too much as john is easier to use to his full potential (you can use him on rockets, as well, which imo john is also very good at killing people units). But do note that you are making napoleon weaker as well by not buying Mahmud ii.

Rocket Artillery is pretty great in campaign, where the ability to kill stuff is the most important, but pretty hard to justify using in a conquest imo. 220 gold, 10(!) pop, and only spawnable from a factory near a lv5 city? not happening.

I think I’m buying John over Mahmud. John deals more damage against forts, and since I dislike Rocket Artillery, he will be better for me. How much do you enjoy using terrain though? John has potential to do enormous damage, but it's hard to have him keep up with your cavalry if you constantly have to run him into mountains and forests. I'd personally get Mahmud or Scharnhorst as they're not that bad on other artillery units and are still good at sieging on top of being easy and flexible to use.

John is strong, but the micromanaging will be annoying. I’m getting Mahmud and see how it happens. Will likely keep him, though.
