A faster Spartacus with Siege instead of Intercept (Crassacus?). Actually it’s not my dream build, rather made by rationality and austerity. The only expensive skill is Inf Comm, the rest were mostly free scrolls from campaigns and not need for other gens. A real unique and fancy build would be a fast archer, to team up with Anthony on long range. Arch Comm, PF, Siege + March/Advantage/Accuracy. I gave up the plan mostly for economic reasons. - Pacorus and Pedius were my first purchase, so commander got infantry capability. For now I can’t afford 5000 gold to reset. Prizes for Senat upgrades are rocketing.
- Infantry is easier to recruit and replenish. The Aura uniform for Inf is there, that for archers is hardest to achieve. Anyway a fast archer wouldn’t have many others archers around to benefit from aura.
- Siege is needed and cheap. Crassus is ok but a one-trick-pony. With Inf Comm and Shield Wall my boy will be better than him (when fully build).
- I have already Drusus and Mith VI, who got the free Arch Comm scrolls. Two archers are enough, should have known before buying both.
- To really keep up an archer with Anthony even commander needs lvl 3 March (7x45 medals for 1 hex?)
- No terrain bonus. PF is still needed 10x for Pompey, 35 medals each. Jungle doesn’t work with Siege and is reserved for Mith VI.
So Inf Comm and Siege was mandatory. Shield wall is imho the best defensive skill and cheap. It works active and passiv and triggers pretty often on Pompey on lvl 3. The only choice I’m not yet convinced is Roar. Without Inf Tactics talent his crit chance is not that big, and he can’t hold both Golden Ring AND Crossbow. Maybe Intercept with gladius would be more efficient. There’re so many things to consider for commander build: most needed role, balance of skills in current and end team, scroll prizes and efficiency of skills combinations. I’d need 3 free gens (Inf, Cav, Arch) to be fully satisfied with the result.

It won’t help with city cracking, but it will make him much better at one v one battles against other units. Vercingetorix would be a fantastic general if he wasn’t so slow. Its also only 25 medals. I know its good because i have used agrippa before.

Golden Ring, to have him on high morale more often, or Cross Bow to increase the crit chance overall? Or simple flat damage with Pompey gladius and trying to rise the morale with easy kills? Not sure, but I guess there’s an undefined additional basic crit chance, beside any increasing talent or skill. Then the chance to trigger would actually be higher than max 20% from lvl 4 Roar.

Someone floated the idea of saving 1 skill slot for a navy ability so that we can minimise investment in navy gens.
What do you all think?

Someone floated the idea of saving 1 skill slot for a navy ability so that we can minimise investment in navy gens. What do you all think? I had the idea about Navy Comm. Current state, campaign chapter 8/14 passed, there’re already 8 free scrolls for it (+ 4x Sailor and 2x Helmsman/Escort). I just can’t select a skill I’d like to sacrifice for Navy. Comm separates good from excellent generals Shield Wall is my defensive lifesaver Roar and Siege is needed to increase flat damage and crit chance With 7 navy capability, africanus aura and all other gens on max possible navy capability, that’s hopefully enough to pass the naval chapters. If I finally feel the need for a navy specialist for perfect clearance, there’s still Cleo. 389 medals is cheap, compared to gold tiers. Will I ever have that much left beside Crown and Spear? idk.

Giving navy commander to your free general is not a bad idea since you do get 9 scrolls. You also get the africanus uniform really early on and also will have at least 7 stars on your navy general. But overall, I do think it is not a good idea to weaken your free commander as he is of vital importance.

Agrippa has an hp advantage over cleo as he is an infantry general, he will have about 25% more hp. He also hits harder due to roar and sailor. He is lastly a general not a legatus. He is a better deal imo.

Ok, then Agrippa, though he looks like stepmothers darling.🥱 I know archers are not the best on ships. And Agrippa’ intercept is nice. Archers can be pretty annoying, like snipers are hated on every battlefield.

He will destroy archers with damage comparable to spartacus. I agree about the portraits. Although cleo is a still a fantastic archer

Like the siege-tunnel looks like made personally for Crassus... and btw Banner of Sun for Cleo. No one else has two comm skills combined.

I just noticed infantry has the speciality of +15% when retaliating. That makes Counter Attack a really strong skill for an infantry commander. But 35 medals is really expensive.

Its a good skills on crassus but not good enough for the free commander. Plus you will be attacking far more often then you are defending, unless you are crassus where you will be attacking cities more often. Shield Wall, Roar, Infantry Commander, Siege, and even jungle fighting are much better skills.

At least in a game there’s space for unreasonable behaviour. When I had to chose between Arminius and Huo the look decided, though Fried Rice can most probably analyse the first is slightly better.
