Sulla was great thanks to penal and financial reforms . Surprisingly he was a great strategist alone (without subordinates helping him to jump on the horse) because he was a real "jerk" . However I was referring to the battle of Orchomenus that was surely one of the best battles of Sulla . After that , Mithridates was scared to keep fighting and the first mithridatic war ended. The problem is that Wikipedia isn't enough to debate on Sulla . Translating latin texts or studying university books (or even Italian high classics school books ) might be better . That's why I appreciated easytech efforts (Americans in video games and films settled in Ancient Rome are too much unrealistic ; the best reconstructions are French or German and Italian , but the Chinese Easytech has my attention ). I know China is studying voraciously Roman Law in their universities , so I'm sure they can only progress more .

Looks like You talked to Sulla's contemporaries to evaluate how great that battle was. Seriously. Mithridates was defeated many times. Not only by Sulla. That's very realistic.

"Big Smoke , chill chill! It's me , CJ !" Btw , we can claim that Punic and Mithridatic wars are fascinating. We know that mankind has still hope when some dudes talk about something different than fb or instagram , just like Roman history . P.S. You are right about Mithridates , indeed I only appreciate his diplomatic skills rather than military (he appointed too many weak noble generals that were only usefull as rich husbands for his daughters or nephews).

History of Rome is a real book, not just item to double your medals from daily missions☺ I read it 10 years ago, maybe I could do it again. And there is a book History of Byzantine empire from Georgy Ostrogorski that I also read that covers that era.

And my apologies it was the book History of Ancient Rome from N.A.Maskin that I read , not History of Rome from Titus Livius ☺

Zabadanov, my friend . You are a man of culture as well, so If you want to read a good book on the west empire , take Mommsen , "The history of Rome" . I know Ostrogorskij , but I've never read his books . You inspired me and I can only thank you (I'll search for his books )

It's about the history of why the French revolution can be justified(don't read it actually, only read if you're into screwed up things, or interested in de Sade's psychology.) I prefer reading books of Machiavelli like the Prince, or On War by Clausewitz rather than history books, which i just usually watch in youtube and read later on if i have time. As for recommendations, chadthelad, Antony and Crassus.

Religion became part of the equation for power strugle so their doom was guaranteed. I will start to read when my kids are old enough to go to school ☺

IMO, chadthelad, once you have a triad of either cav (by buying Anthony) or inf (by buying Crassus), you may want to consider either Mithridates VI (or was it IV) or Drusus to create an archer triad and capitalise on Caesar and your archer Commander's talent. This way, you can more easily divide your men and conquer (while dividing up enemy forces and conquering them ). Don't worry too much about navy, your commander, Pompey and other gens still have raw atk points.

Navy generals are barely stronger than the regular generals in water, provided they have enough stars.
