Who was the best general that died too young or before reaching his full potential. You can base yourself on two things, what he did, what he could have become. Since this is a thread about deaths, I must ask for maturity and respect.

In fair honesty Rommel and Poniatowski did not die too soon as they lived through most of their wars, but yes they both had future potential

I chose other, as I'd say Stonewall Jackson died too soon. In my opinion, if Jackson had lived through the entire U.S civil war, the U.S civil war could have been prolonged past 1865.

Other: Patton, although not a great person, he was a great general.

Other: Patton, although not a great person, he was a great general. A very brash and very strict general but a great general He would have had so much cold war use

Brock: the war of 1812 would have been a lot more painful for the americans with Brock alive, especially early on.
Lannes was one of Napoleon best commanders. If he lived, the napoleonic wars may have a way different ending
Desaix: while he was not the level of Lannes when he died. He was only 32 and had a lot of room to improve and surely would have changed the ending if he lived, since he was already excellent.

I would have to agree! Got shot by his own men at Chancellorsville, died days later due to pneumonia. Definitely changed outcome of war. Confederates could have possibly won Battle of Gettysburg if he partook in it.

Desaix didn't live long enough to prove himself.

Desaix didn't live long enough to prove himself. Desaix did prove himself to be an extremely competent commander. If you gave him a few more years, he could have exceptional and easily one of Nspoleon's best marshals

Colonel Oskars Kalpaks died way too soon(freedom fights were won without him alive, but wouldn't had been possible without him), if he was alive around 1939/1940 Baltic states would had fought with USSR and Germany when Poland got attacked, which would make war different, as British wouldn't have any other way as backup Baltic entente, making war way more difficult in eastern Europe and would make it fought differently.

Anyways back on track, my favorite would've been Rommel as he had great skills that he had shown during the Battle of France and Africa. Had he lived longer the world would've been somewhat different.

As for Rommel, I agree and voted for him as well.
