I ain't no Southern Belle, so forgive me if I stray. Been a long time since I did a course on the history of Rock and Roll. Southern Music The South is most famous for Country and Western music, a genre they dominate. For example, Nashville Tennessee is known as "Music City U.S.A" and its the home of the Grand Ole Opry, a 86 year old concert organization that is the longest running Radio broadcast in USA, albeit not on a network. The best stars of country appear on their stage. But that is not all! The south, partially through its African-American community, is the home of blues and rock and roll. Its record companies dominated popular music in the 1950s and 60s. While the most famous Heavy metal bands, particularly in the early days, are British, most of them cite or are obviously influenced by blues and southern bands. Thus one can easily say Heavy METAL was started by the south \m/ I have no doubt they put their mark on pop as well, though I know less about that. Whatever way you cut it, the South has a giant influence in modern music. Taylor swift started out country, and she dominates pop today. She's a cringe fest, personally, but she dominates.

Southern Military
I'll get it out the way now, we weren't fighting the good fight. But by god we gave it to them Yankees!
During the first half of the Civil War, the South dominated the battlefield. From Bull Run to Manassas, we fought hard enough to where if we won Antietam or Gettysburg, Britain and France would've formally recognized the Confederacy!
Not that it would've been great, morally or ethically.
But Southern success stemmed from our great, AND BETTER, Generals. Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Braxton Bragg, southern generals never faltered. Until the later half of the war, where thd North could use it's industry effectively...
But even with that, the south dominates the military today. As much as 44% of the military is from the south.

Southern Education
Despite what them Yankees make us out to be, the south is pretty damn smart!
Home to many of the best schools in the country, ths south can hardly be beat. UNC and Georgia Tech, for the hardworking engineer, Duke and Vanderbilt for the life-saving doctor, NC State and Clemson for the bookworm researcher. Not to mention the south has dominated college sports, as of late.

Southern Hospitality
To finish things off, the people are just great. You need a cup of sugar, we give you a wheelbarrow! You need a place to stay, move on in! You need to hide a body, by god, we'll dig the grave! Southern People are warm and welcoming to those who don't threaten their guns and those who wouldn't mind momma's cookin'.
The South is the best group of states you could possibly hope for.

On that lovely note, there's one final thing for me to add about the South: our temperament. Yes, most of us are the friendly, welcoming type, but many of us are also the type of people who will defend our lives, families, and/or reputation from any attackers. And we have PLENTY of guns, so you can guess how that will go down.

Greece lost to an overwhelming German-Italian army, after kicking the butt of the Italians (not surprising for anybody but Greece. Was still one of the first allied victories) Finland was starting to break when they made peace with the Soviets, giving land to Soviet. Do we remember how the finns lost, or what they did before losing? My point being, losing is hardly the final word on an peoples performance in war. While the South is at fault for not modernizing its industry, consider this: 2,200,000 USA troops (20,000,000+ people total) 750,000-1,000,000 Southern troops. (9,000,000 total, 5,000,000 whites) Losses 853,000 US (385,254 in battle casualties) 914,660 CSA (288,026 in battle casualties) Despite having way less men, at peak strength, throughout the war, and in population. Despite having MASSIVELY less industry. They still held out for over 4 years, inflicting a similar total of losses on the US military, and apparently more in battle. I'd say this is a good show, even though they lost. Edit: the higher number of losses for the southerners might be due to higher amount of captured soldiers. One estimate is in battle USA lost 500,000 men, CSA lost 350,000. I could be completely wrong, and they had many bad days, but I wouldn't be surprised if the southern soldier was the superior one. Both sides started out with the most pathetic troops, who were saved by one, great factor-morale.
