Especially in CW hard and 1980 both conquest and campaign as well as Exercise in Gibralter, Hudson Bay, Aegean Sea there are cities you have to take but they are out of range considering the turn limit. So we need to launch 6-8 missiles despite air/missile defence and lots of HP and paratroop on the last turn. If something went wrong or just to give a larger margin for errors an air general can help since he raises the missile damage. I'd say the late Domination battles and conquests you want to do extremely fast are where air force generals make the biggest impact. Guderian has 3 air stars, can have 4. Manstein has 4 air stars, can have 5. Why buy an air general when I could simply place either of those in a city with missiles? Even better, in a mission without naval battles, I can use Nimitz. In case I need Guderian or Manstein, I can retreat either of them to a city with missiles while Rommel, Timoshenko and the general that I didn’t retreat to the city engage the enemy. Buying a general just for a missions is a waste, even if that general can be sold.

As long as you use your air power in a responsible way (like not attacking units with strong anti air, but straffing artillery generals, or grabbing cities), you won’t need any general at all

Yes he is useful on a carrier. But he also lacks the ability to heal on one. If you keep him safe, he will consistently deal lots of damage.

Phew, just passed the 40 percent mission. Is Dowding worth 1341 medals?

Phew, just passed the 40 percent mission. Is Dowding worth 1341 medals? Depends, he's also an economic general. But Arnold offers more potential than him with only a around 100 more medals. I gave Arnold the economic expert (+medal).

Phew, just passed the 40 percent mission. Is Dowding worth 1341 medals? buy him after you complete and well upgrade your 3 tanks, 2 arty and 1 navy gen. Pure air gen like him only useful in conquest if you dont upgrade his economic skill. Arnold is better choice for campaign than him (lvl 4 rumor)

Arnold can be given economic expert too, and he's still superior to Dowding with any skill. indeed, since insertusername needs his medals to upgrade his other gens, its wise to buy arnold than dowding (who will be useless in campaign if unupgraded). either he will use arnold for rumor or economic boost, its up to him

On a semi related note: I was wondering if the Street Fighting skill has any effect on the dmg done by air attacks? It seeems to, but then again I could just be getting lucky.
Secondly- What about Yamamoto? He has 6 stars in air AND 2 skill slots. I know that he costs more but not only do you get the air stars but also a 5 star Navy general... I'd rather spring for the M$ to get the Moto.

I'd rather spring for the M$ to get the Moto. Yamamoto is a good air gen in carrier, his air stars and skills are awesome. But to make him useful in Navy (cruiser or sub), you need a ton of medals to upgrade his skill (his base cost is already huge), which makes us rather choose the Nimitz, Donitz or Kuz combo than him. You can buy Arnold or Dowding as an air gen.

Personally I feel like he would be a DECENT general to have as your 9th or 10th. But for campaign, he pretty much useless as he doesn't have rumor as with arnold. Out of just the air generals, he is worth getting as with his discounts, he can be pretty cheap, and also because Yamamoto is way too expensive for most players. As for skills, I would just upgrade airforce leader as economic is terrible and expensive. For his free slot I would say carpet bombing or crowd tactics just to give a little more support.
