Speaking about the Civil War historical missions, is max tech required? near full max to max.

So I removed his Counter attack and inspiration. I replaced it with assault and Alert. I was hoping he'll be good for attacking artillery before Calvary comes in. Could I have made him better for this purpose?

Could I have made him better for this purpose? I probably would not use alert because he is infantry and Infantry can already bulid defensives. I would add a Terrain abilty like mountain fighting so he is faster at reaching Artillery.

If you're planning to make him destroy artilleries, alert and forest fighting would be ideal

Currently his attack is around 100+. I used up my books today: D so tomorrow I'll see about either terrains. No problem! Does be perform better now?

I would go for mountain fighting due to mountains having some defensives against Artillery. Also the terrain is quite common in the Alps so it's somewhat better in history mode.

Don't invest too much into Grant, he's merely a beginner general that will last you until you are able to afford Lee/Boroevic/Haig/Straussenberg

infantry sucks so it's not a good idea to invest in them anyway, i'm going to just have lee, not going to get another inf general except for history mode. can Straussenberg be used for history?

No, but Lee and Boroevic aren't too, yet they are the strongest inf gens ingame. The only history mode inf gens are MacArthur, MacMahon, Boyadzhiev, Misic, Bojovic, Bismarck, Falkenhausen, Petain and Garibaldi.

Not really, infantry has good movement and their abilty to bulid trenchs is great on the defensive. I don't recommend just Spaming Infantry but have a balance of the units you use because, each have advantages and disadvantages.

conquest challenge requires you to take enemy cities fast to weaken their economy. infantry is not good for that, you need cav + arty gens.
i only have lee for campaign because you usually start off with some infantry units. other than that, i have no use for him. i use 4 cav gens, 3 arty gens, lee, and 2 navy gens for most conquests

Infantry doesn't suck. Lol. I like using them to attack before using cav or artillery to finish the job and move to the next weak unit. I realize I'll probably have buy at least 3more generals for history mode. Since i have plenty of Gold and medals i figure I'll just invest into Grant for the last chapter in campaign.
