Save for Patton as Allies, get Student for Axis.

Save for Patton as Allies, get Student for Axis. I've heard that the 1941 campaigns are pretty brutal and im a pretty novice player and I don't have faith in my ability to make past 1941 without strong generals

Never get a general before you need them, so you can make an educated decision.

Please mention who you chose, I'm sure many of us would like to know.

One thing is absolutely certain you can't be wrong by hiring top level tank general. Not a free one, not a decent one, not a good one, but the best one... Who is the best is a debatable question but the choice is rather limited.
I completed GoG classic and Pacific with only one general and it was a tank general. Yes, infantry is significantly better than it was the case in some previous games; yes, artillery fire can be deadly; yes, navy and Air force are helpful, but this game will be won by tank generals.

So would you reccomend guderian as the first axis general people get? And what about the allies side? Would timoshenko be enough to carry 1941?

Guderian or Rommel, it actually doesn't matter because many players will hire both. Allies have quite a decent choice as well: Vatutin, Patton, Monty, Rokossovsky... One thing is sure you'll need at least 2 top tier tank generals on each side, plan your path accordingly... The problem with mediocre generals like Timoshenko is that they can fill in the gap perfectly, but you need a really solid foundation to build upon as a first importance. And only then you can fill in the gap. We shouldn't put the cart before the horse...

I've heard that axis Eastern front is very brutal. maybe I should get both leeb and guderian in preparation then get someone like vatutin or konev with my earnings..🤔

Artillery is great in support, but you have to build your relentless attack first. ET games have some common features. More often than not you will attack (rather than to défend). And no one has the same attacking potential as tank generals.

I'm afraid that tanks are gonna be left in the dust in the pacific campaigns
