While I did the the same. I’d say getting Guderian first might not be that great of an idea. Yeah I did it since I figured that a uber tank general would pay off eventually anyway, but the axis seems to get the better end of the stick when it comes to free generals in 1939. Whereas the allies gets the completely worthless Cunningham.

Ha, ha, after analysing some skills of generals my thought is that Rundstedt is actually a pretty good tank general Yes, he has only 2 tank stars, but he has life steal ability and - 40 percent of damage when he attacks. He should be almost unkillable on heavy German tanks What I’m worried about is his slowness more than anything.

Guderian makes grinding so much more easier tho because ever since I got guderian I managed to nail around half of the 1939 army group and managed to grind 3 medals/minute in the blitzkrieg mission

Yeah now with leeb I managed to get 3-8 medals per playthrough of blitzkrieg and now I'm currently grinding towards montgomery

Guderians sheer power helps so much in swiftly wiping out the initial polish and then in the race towards smigly his speed and blitzkrieg skill really shines through as he wipes out smigly and everything around him in 3-5 rounds

So far, I am very happy with my choice on Dowding. When we get Timo and Chuikov, at least, we have a line up that is ready for any function (not including submarine, I guess). Dowding's Dive Bombing seems very useful too. Combine that with flanking, I did easily disable strong enemy generals a few times. Would you recommend him as player's first general? Or would you rather pick someone else? Since I cannot really say that he is a better choice than Monty or other gen because I don't have them to compare. What I can say is that I am quite happy with him.

I'm a bit iffy on getting dowding since getting an air commander as your first gen is a bit risky since we still don't know the worth of air power but the popular opinion seems to be that all unit types are equal I'm tempted to get kesselring and dowding once I have acquired a good inf, tank, and art gen for both the axis side and allied side

It's just that I don't really need any particular gen to pass WF1939 and I prefer Rokoss to Monty so I tried Dowding as my first infantry general (and keep the seat for Rokoss).

Have you bought any axis gens yet? I have heard that their eastern front missions are particularly difficult compared to the allied side which is why I've prepared by buying the best art and tank general that the axis camp has to offer(leeb and goderian)

Yeah guderian and rommel are very pricey but leeb is relatively affordable thought
