I obviously also didn't buy any general yet, but i would firstly save up as much as you can.
I still think that an artillery general would be viable. The downside of artillery is however that it's very slow, so i would pick a general with movement stars as well.
So far leeb, auchinleck and if you can konev seem great, but i only saw the stars so perhaps they all have crappy skills.
I do think Konev will be the best artillery general in the game though, even past govorov.

I brought Auchinleck mainly for his lvl 3 explosive skill.

I am analyzing them and I think that first general should be either konev or yamamoto, they have multipurpose skills and stars and they can be very useful on more than one unit type

For first general we need someone that is cheap or not expensive at the very least.

Or any path suggestions for the new players Well the game only came out recently and I am still exploring the game so I don't have any confident recommendations ATM

I went for Patton as my first. We're holding up pretty well so far.

I went for Patton as my first. We're holding up pretty well so far. How were you able to save the medals for patton? I went as far as I could go without a general (past Axis 7 or somewhere around there, along with completing some of the side missions - whatever they're called). For the rest, yes, I gave up and had to buy with money. No way someone could just save up for a top tier as their first guy, because of how difficult it becomes to earn medals. On another note. I was thinking of settling with Badoglio or Auchinleck at first, maybe even Leeb.

It was 1200-1270, estimated range. I haven't unlocked all the silvers yet, but Leeb was the cheapest, and I still didn't have enough for him.
