Bock, he's quite a controversial one.
He has good skills for a tank gen, some stars to back up his raw dmg, even stars in other troop types to make him more versatile.
However, he costs 1150 medals, has no empty skill slots, has a <Captain> rank & is close, if not, AT the limits of his full potential.
Bronze tier gens are usually the ones you just exploit as a stepping stone.
IF you are good enough to be able to use Bock to recover the 20% medal loss & go far in the game then buy him. Otherwise, there's always the Messe-Leeb combo.

Bock may be a good gen, but he is rathrr useless because can slow you down. In my first attempt, I got him after Messe and I got stuck on Allies 11. The second time, I got Wilhelm Ritter von Leeb instead and it was much easier. Then, with this combo you can easily get Vatutin, or even go straight for Guderian. There is no need for Bock. |

There is another side of the coin as well. It may be called "the problem of number 6". When you reach Modern war campaigns there is a question "Who will be your 6-th general". And it was a tricky one, because most of the time you will use only 5 triple stacked units of heavy tanks and rocket artillery. Sometimes you will use your Navy general, but there are land missions as well. So you need a support general on some available vehicles like medium tanks. And Bock is quite capable for this job, though I think Messe is better...

On its own, I'd say he is probably the best bronze tier general. His problem is that Messe has the same stars, costs 700 medals less, and it is a better support general in the end due to Crowd Tactics and Rumor.

This guy's skills is useful enough to redeem him not being able to add skills, but as all bronze generals are, he can't get you far in the game. Notably, he's overall better than model, and can be used as a fun alternative to messe if you are aiming for getting all the German high command, but thats just for fun and the smart player will get messe or just aim for vatutin or leeb.

I mean, that is definitely true but he does cost twice as much as messe keep in mind. Anyway, if he had an additional skill lot he could be better than vatutin. His lack of armored assualt hurts him the most |

*cries* bbbbut... vatutin is better with the stars, and blitzkrieg wouldnt be good as one, you would probably get guderian for that, and two vatutin is a mid game general where the range from heavy tanks and the panzer leader are more suitable from the european campaigns to very early cold war campaigns. Bock is painful to upgrade, those medals could have gone to gunning for another general or upgrading someone with more stars

Level 5 plain fighting bock with high moral dealing a fatal blow could be the same as unupgraded guderian

Yeah, Bock is Guderian lite. TBH if he had Armored Assault instead of plain fighting, to me he would be a slower Manstein. I’m not a fan of Plain Fighting. I prefer Ace Forces. But I’m still going to max all of Erich's skills after getting all of my generals to make him have his full potential anyway.
Update: Yeah, just realized that Ace Forces can decrease someone's perfomance if they are already too good.

Fedor von Bock, you are destined to go above all one day. There may be a day where you might even surpass me, but it may actually be closer than you think. This is the best of Bock we have seen yet, and he will hopefully only get better from here. (4/5 for now, may or may not change in future games)
