Had Konev for awhile
Bought & raised Rumor on him to Lvl5. With him, Guderian & Rommel (all Rumor 5) they do some devastating stuff in the field
But I've had Konev's last skill slot empty. Just can't decide what to plug
Machinist: Seems a good life extender for Domination & Conquest games. But it's sooooo minimal
Plain fighting: Seems the most prominent terrain and would be a boost to his damage
Cover: Would be a good damage mitigator, but the low chance coupled with the low reduction amount...
Crossfire: I try really hard to keep him behind the lines so he won't get attacked, so this seems kinda meh...
Camouflage: He seems to draw a lot of air attacks, but just may be my perception
I like having Rundstedt as my Infintry general. Rarely, if ever, use Konev on infantry (Invasions).
He's my Artillery general. Want to make him the best at it

He's my Artillery general. Want to make him the best at it All good skills. But I would go for a skill that is both useful in campaign and in conquest. I do not recommend crossfire off the bat as you don’t want your artillery taking advantage, escpecially without a machinist skill. I do not recommend camoflauge either. If you want a damage reduction skill, I’d recommend cover as it covers everything from air attacks to damage from common units. It could save him from destruction if someone like guderian attacks him. However, I would personally use cover on tank generals. You don’t want your artillery general to be a bullet sponge. As for machinist, it is a good skill in conquest no debate. But it is more important to have a skill that is good in campaign and challenges. For that, machinist is not a good skill. Plain fighting is imo a good choice. Couple’d with konev’s precision and artillery leader, this will lead to good damage. Another choice you have is making konev an infantry artillery hybrid by giving him infantry leader. This will save you lots of money instead of buying a general such as yamashita or rundstendt. Konev will have infantry leader raider and rumor to keep him punchig. You can use him on commandos in conquest. But infantry is not the most useful imo. Even still, you will find the occasional use for konev on infantry. Imo, your best options are to 1. Cover: very useful in campaign in conquest. Only 12% chance to trigger but can save konev when you make a mistake. Also it protects from air attacks as well. If you don’t have rocket artillery tech upgraded all the way, this will be a great skill. Even for field artillery, the same situation applies. 2. Plain fighting: +37.5 damage will also be useful. However, if you already have another general with plain fighting who has the skill, I would pass on it as +25 damage is nothing. Will also be useful in situations where you have to play with infantry. 3. Infantry Leader: will make konev overpowered on infantry as well. Will save tons of medals. But seeing as you will be using konev either on infantry, at any given time, two of his skills will be useless. Keep in mind that you will have to heal quite a lot using this build. But of course, with enough medals invested, konev might as well be yamashita. This will save either 1100 medals for rundstendt (who will either be much weaker than konev or will lack rumor), or 2300 medals yamashita/macarthur(a better hybrid than infantry general but still on par with yamashita). Yamashita and Macarthur will both be slightly stronger than konev on infantry, but not much.

That is an idea, but I think it would be much less stressful to just buy another general to the buffing. If you get timoshenko, he will have plain fighting, crowding tactics, and possibly rumor, and will be an amazing supporting general. But I like your idea. I just think the strongest artillery general in the entire game, and the second strongest general in the base game, should not be the one doing the buffing.

I bought Crowd tactics for Rundstedt initially to use the medal
Currently buffed to Rank 4 w medal he adds +24 to adjacent units which is making him very effective for Invasions. I don't have to use Konev as a hybrid
In 'not' invasions, moving Rundstedt to the frontline of Hvy units (Tanks/Artil) the big guns shoot first with Rundstedt's bonus. If they survived, Rundstedt usually provides a coup de gras
*edit Not trying to sidetrack this into a Rundstedt discussion...

I think that the best way to use crowd tactics is to use it on generals, such as timoshenko or messe, who already have it and can be useful for other purposes. I don’t think rundstendt is the right general to stick it on but I get your point.

Konev is a beast, hitting at 600 plus damage on a high morale red star super artillery. even in this particular conquest his crit hit is 200 plus. I maxed out plain fighting for him with a medal to boost it, hence the insane damage stats

Dammit, I was thinking of using him as a pure artillery. Is he still worth it as one, though? I can just pretend that Raider is useless... Scratch that, I can maybe use him as a substitute for Rundstedt during his discount missions.

Scratch that, I can maybe use him as a substitute for Rundstedt during his discount missions. Konev is pure artillery without a doubt. I would say he's pure artillery and good infantry, which is an op hybrid. Best artillery general, cuz artillery only needs leader and accuracy cuz they have anti-retaliation skills by nature. Add rumor and damage increment skill like explosives, and he will be a beast. No need for an extra space so raider is ok.

Great, great, great. Thanks a lot, Bing. You are really helping me with finding the right generals to buy.
