I rated him 3,
I agree with him having potential to be a good starting general, and therefore je is definitely not useless.
However I would not buy him as in the beginning you can save up for better generals and him not being that great in lategame campaigns.

IMO Messe is quite good to make life easier in early game, get some extra medals from invasions while you save for better gen and also get some resources and wearable medals by completing tasks. Sure, that depends on how much you play, if you can get some 1.5K medals in 2-3 days, it's not worth to buy Messe or any other cheap gen first. But if you proceed slowly, like some 1-2 levels per day, for sure it's worth to buy cheap gen for early game as you may even get more medals from invasions than you will lose selling this gen. But I think Crear is better choice for starting gen. A bit worse at tanks, but better in art and inf, which lets you clear more invasions.

Honestly, Messe is amazing as a first or second gen. Messe is a great beginner's tank gen and even stayed with me until I need a medal boost for Nimitz. His Rumor skill can devastate opponents if upgraded and when combined with Leeb (who is easily obtainable with Messe) he is unstoppable.

Why do people recommend Leeb and Messe as a combo? Tried them together and they seem okay but i don't really have anyone else to compare to

Leeb is a very strong artillery general (2nd best, better than zhukov), and Messe is very strong starter. Overall, both are the great in their respective units. You can also just get timoshenko, costs is not that much different. His speed would make him a good candidate for early game, especially in conquest. Or similarly you can just get vatutin. Messe and Leeb combo really offers a lot more punching power in my opinion. And having two generals with rumor and flanking is really powerful. Overall, its a safe and reliable combination of generals, there aren’t really too many other alternatives. Also, both are quite accessible even in the beginning, due to the low hq requirement. |

ye the messe leeb combo also kinds of saves you the trouble and medals to add rumour onto better generals for end game, you can use them alongside with one another

If you upgrade Messe's rumor to Level 5 he basically becomes a “land-Arnold”.
